[1st Aplec Meeting 2002] 2002/02/19
The first APLEC meeting for the year 2002 was held in the School Library. The Chairman, Bro. Patrick Tierney, welcomed two new members, Mr. Wong Kwan Yau and Mr. Francis Tse, staff of LSC, who led the Hong Kong delegates to the last APLEC.
- Reports
- Financial Report
- The report was printed and distributed to the members.
- La Sallian Family Office
- Bro. Thomas Lavin discussed the annual contributions from the member schools to the Lasallian Family Office. Member schools agreed to pay on receiving the demand notes.
- Lasallian Resources
- From 1500 poems written by Bro. Patricius, Bro. Patrick selected 80 to 90 for publication. Member schools were asked to help out by inserting art work related to the poems.
- Rights of the Child
- Members from CSKLSC and CSKLSPS met and agreed on the schedule of work involved. A web site http://rightsofchild.tripod.com was prepared.
- Educational Services for the Poor
- The Action Plan prepared by CGHC was distributed to the members. After discussions, members suggested that CGHC should start the project with their own members and gradually expand to involve other schools.
- Faith and Moral Education
- Members from the SJPS distributed the report prepared by the ad Hoc committee. The project would begin with a questionnaire.
In the Footsteps of the Founder Tour
The finalised itineray was distributed. The tour committee invited all staff members from the APLEC schools, together with their spouses and childre above 12 to join.
- Lasallian Youth Movement LSC
- HK Lassallian Youth Movement
- There were three main items, namely, Leaders' Camp, Service project and the Lasallian Youth Games Day.
- APLEC 6
- The members who led the delegates to APLEC 6 said the trip was worthwhile. It was an eye opener for the students as they met fellow Lasallians from all over the world. They suggested that the HK delegates should be better prepared before they attend the Congress.
APLYC 7
The date was tentatively set at late July to early August 2003. It was agreed to set up a Central Committee. Several members volunteered and others would be nominated by their schools.
APLEC 2003 Malaysia
The next APLEC was scheduled to take place in Penang Malaysia, from 14th to 19th December 2002. Lasallian Schools would nominate teachers. Bro. Patrick pointed out that this is a very special year: 150 years of the arrival of the Brothers in Asia and the 350th Birthday of our Founder.
Mission in China
Bro. Patrick reported that Bro. David Liao started to teach English in a primary school in the North West of Guangdong Province. More update in the next meeting.

Member schools gave brief reports on things happening in their schools.

The third APLEC (Asia-Pacific Lasallian Educators' Congress) meeting was held in the School Library in La Salle College. Mrs. Magdalene Wang gave the financial report. This was followed by other reports. Bro. Thomas reported on the Lasallian Family Office, Miss Edith Loong on Resources and Mr. Peter Chiu on Induction Day.
Bro. David Liao then talked about China. He thanked the teachers who attended the meeting on China last time. He said he followed the advice received, i.e. "go slow and start small." He was happy to say that he had established a connection with a school in GuangDong and will start teaching English there.
Members from the Schools then talked about the Tasks assigned to them. CSK has established a web site and teachers have been working on their area of concern. Other schools were just starting.

Mr. Michael Leung and Miss Jessica Lai then introduced their preparation on the Pilgrimage to Rheims and Rome next summer. The presentation was well prepared and the presenters gave four very good reasons why members should join the tour.
Date of next meeting changed to 16th February 2002.

[Lasallian Induction Day] 2001/10/13
|
The Lasallian Family Office organised a common Induction Day for the New teachers, from the last two years, of the Lasallian Schools in the School Hall of La Salle College. Over 50 new teachers attended.
Bro. Patrick Tierney thanked the organiser, Vice Principals from Lasallian Schools, and welcomed the new teachers.
Bro. Thomas Lavin, the Chairman of the Lasallian Family Office, gave a presentation with slide show and videos. This was packed with events and activities, such as tea break, Group Discussions, Question and Answer session, group photo, and display and sale of Lasallian products.

It finished off with lunch in the General Purpose Rooms.
The Lasallian Schools include five Secondary Schools, St. Joseph's College, La Salle College, Chan Sui Ki College, Chong Gene Hang College, and De La Salle Secondary School, and three Primary Schools, La Salle Primary School, St. Joseph's Primary School and Chan Sui Ki Primary School.
