Interschool Activities: Hong Kong Schools Music Festival

2004/03/25   56th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Prize Winners' Concert The Opening Night
The Chinese Orchestra was the 7th team to perform, just before the Prize Giving Ceremony. They received the HK Juvenile & Youth Chinese Classic Orchestra Trophy.
The ensemble made La Salle history by being the first to appear in the Prize Winners' Concert in recent years.

51 teams competed in two sessions, morning and afternoon. La Salle College was the first to perform. They did not start well. But settled down and performed better. They had to wait till after 5 pm for the results.
The adjudicator awarded 9 Third prizes. The winners were Kau Yan, Chiu & Leung, Lam Woo, Ho Fung, Belilios, DGS, Bishop Mok Sau Tseng, Semple Memorial and Tuen Mun Govt.
There were four Second prizes: La Salle College, Leung Kau Kui, Ho & Wong and Diocesan Boys'.
The first prize went to Leung Kau Kui.

26 schools competed in three sessions, morning, afternoon and evening. The Compulsory piece was Celebration of Life
Belilios came first, followed by St. Bonaventure. There were three Third places: HK International School, Diocesan Boys' School and PLK No.1 W.H.Cheung College.
The other schools include La Salle, Wong Fut Nam, International Christian, Kwun Tong Govt, Good Hope, Wah Yan Kowloon, Sing Yin, Munsang, Heep Yunn, Chinese YMCA, Seaward Woo, Lam Woo, Law Ting Pong, Shatin Tsung Tsin, Ying Wa Boys, Cheung Chuk Shan, Diocesan Girls', Chinese Women's Club, Li Ka Shing, Fung Wang Fung Ting, Tsuen Wan Govt.

17 schools took part in two groups, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening. The Compulsory piece was No. 1 Overture (prelude) (L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1)
DGS won, followed by Belilios and Ying Wa College. The other schools include La Salle, Good Hope, St. Mary's, Queens, Sacred Heart, Chinese Foundation, Queen Elizabeth, Lam Woo, Heep Yunn, St. Stephen's, KGV, Clementi, Yan Chai Hospital No.2 and Carmel Pak U.

12 schools entered this event. The compulsory piece was Rumanian Folk Dances.
Belilios won. St. Stephen's Girls' came second and Wah Yan Kowloon third. The other schools included La Salle, DBS, Wah Yan HK, Kings, Marymount, Queen's, St. Mary's, Shatin Tsung Tsin, Shaukeiwan Government.

67 teams took part in three sessions, morning, afternoon and evening. LSC was scheduled at around 7 pm. One of the members had to play a vital basketball match against DBS at 5:00 pm. LSC's request to appear as the last team was accepted.
The adjudicator awarded 9 Third prizes (Belilios, Immanuel Lutheran, Lee Hang Kwei, Tuen Mun Government, Shatin Tsung Tsin, Jockey Club Ti-I, Heep Yunn, Carmel Pak U, Kwun Tong Government)
La Salle College shared second prize with two Schools (DBS and St. Mary Canossian)
and the Champion went to DBS.
This is definitely a very good result, a Champion and a first runner-up in two categories of Chinese Ensemble in two days.

31 schools competed from morning 9:15 am to the evening 8:30 pm. LSC was the 20th to perform, 4th team in the evening session starting at 6:30 pm.
The adjudicator awarded 5 Third prizes (DBS, Leung Kau Kui, Belilios, King's and Ying Wah)
three second prizes (DGS, Yuen Long District Sec School and Immanuel Lutheran College)
and there's one Champion (La Salle College)
This is definitely a first in the history of La Salle College.
While the team members were rejoicing at the result, the conductor Mr. Ng Chiu Sing read score sheet and the adjudicators' remarks.

The Treble Choir had a last minute rehearsal in the School Hall at 4:30 pm.
9 schools competed in this class and LSC was the last to go up onto the stage. They sang quite well and had high hopes of getting a prize.
"There are two third prizes," declared the adjudicator Mr. Jones, "Kings College and La Salle College."
"DBS came second and St. Paul's College won the champion."
