Ricky Tang Chun Pong (6B), Jonathan Chan Ka Chun (6B) and Brian Ip Pui Lam (6B), together with Rev. Brother Thomas and Mr. Patrick Chan returned from ChengDu (成都), SiChuan province (四川) after competing in the 19th China Adolescent Science & Technology Invention Contest (第19屆 全國青少年科技創新大賽). It is the largest and most competitive science event for primary and secondary students held annually in China. There are 343 teams participating in the competition this year. They came from different provinces in China and La Salle is the first time to represent Hong Kong to take part in the competition.
The competition was held in the ChengDu International Convention and Exhibition Centre for public exhibition from 20 /8 to 23 /8. During the 4-day competition, the boys were required to present their projects, “Water Purifying System” to the judges and the general public. They were also interviewed by reports from local TV stations! After the exhibition, the boys were assigned to various tests for science knowledge, technical and presentation/communication skill.
Exhausted by the whole day competition, the boys could finally relax and had a delicious meal with Brother Thomas and Mr. Patrick Chan in a famous restaurant in ChengDu. They enjoyed the spicy and hot pot very much!
Eventually, the competition came to the end on 24th August. Through their hard work, the boys were awarded a Bronze medal and a Prize for Creativity in the prize giving ceremony. They would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Ms Becky Lam, Mr. Chan Yun Kit, Mr. Chan Tong and Mr. Tong Wun Sing for their invaluable guidance and advice. They would also like to thank Rev. Brother Thomas, Mr. Yik Kwan and Mr. Patrick Chan for their continuous support for the project.
